Active oxygen
Recently identified reactive oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur species (known as free radicals) are known for their ability to cause oxidative damage to lipids, proteins, and DNA. Free radicals are usually electrically charged and tend to neutralize and stabilize themselves by reacting with other substances causing oxidation reactions.
