Wedad S. Sarawi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at King Saud University's College of Pharmacy, where she has been since October 2023. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor's in Pharmaceutical Sciences from King Saud University, awarded with First Class Honors in February 2010. She furthered her education in the UK, completing a Master's in Pharmacology with Distinction from Aston University in September 2013, followed by a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Birmingham in June 2019. Her doctoral research focused on "A Neuropharmacological Study of 5-HT4 and 5-HT6 Receptors and Their Relevance to Alzheimer’s Disease". Wedad has been a professionally registered pharmacist in Saudi Arabia since 2010. Her research interests are centered on the serotonin system and its role in regeneration, neuronal survival, and apoptosis in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases. She has a strong publication record, with numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has mentored five master's students and currently supervises two PhD candidates.
In addition to her academic and research roles, Dr. Sarawi is actively involved in various committees at King Saud University, including serving as the Head of the Proposal and Thesis Committee. She is also an experienced trainer for the Mawhiba Academic Enrichment Program and a researcher in the Mawhiba Research Enrichment Program. Her expertise is further recognized through her participation as a judge in significant pharmaceutical conferences like the Saudi International Conference for Pharmaceutical Research and Innovation (MSIR). Dr. Sarawi has received several awards and honors throughout her career, including the Distinction award from the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in London (2013) and the Dean's Award for Outstanding Student (2010).
