Module Description
Organic halides)IUPAC nomenclature, Physical properties, Synthesis, Grignard reagents, Nucleophilic substitution SN1, SN2. E1, E2  mechanism). IUPAC nomenclature, Classification, Physical properties, Synthesis, Reactions of the following organic classes: Alcohols and Thiols; Ethers, Epoxides and Sulphides; Phenols, Aldehydes and Ketones; Carboxylic
acids
and Their Derivatives, Amines.

Module Aims

  • Applications of the following organic classes: Organic Halides, Alcohols, ethers, phenols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic (and their derivatives) and amines
  • Learning the basis of nomenclature, physical properties, synthesis and reactions
  • Learning the mechanisms of the reactions in particular SN1/SN2&E1/E2
  • Learning how to write a scheme including multi-step reactions.
  • The ability of the students to search using the available references and the internet.
  • Recognize the basis of nomenclature, physical properties, synthesis and reactions of the following organic classes: Organic halides, alcohols, ethers, phenols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic (and their derivatives) and amines
  • Acquire how to write a scheme for converting one organic compound to another
  • State how to write the mechanisms of the reactions
  • Teaching strategies to be used to develop that knowledge
