Molecular Diagnostics Techniques CLS 469
This course offers basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, purification, and quantification and will serve as the basis for advanced method employed in the clinical laboratory. These include hybridization, DNA probes, blotting methods, PCR and other amplification techniques. Additionally, infectious diseases in terms of molecular epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, genotyping and detection of viral load will be presented. Topics will also cover histocompatibility testing of HLA in organ transplantation and bone marrow engraftment, as well as applications of molecular methods in sickle-cell anemia, leukemia, and various genetic diseases and tumor.
