introduction/brief CV
Dr Rukhsana Gul is an Associate Professor at Obesity Research Center (ORC), College of Medicine, King Saud University, KSA. Dr Gul has completed her Ph.D. from Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Chonbuk National University, South Korea. Prior to joining ORC, Dr. Gul was working as a Postdoctoral fellow in Diabetes Research Center, Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Missouri, Columbia-MO, USA.
Dr Gul has a long-standing interest in the signaling mechanisms activated by the peptide hormone Angiotensin II (Ang II) in normal development and cardiovascular pathology. Her research has taken a new direction recently with the emphasis on understanding the role of different microRNA’s in cardiovascular pathology. Her recent studies in Diabetes Research center, at the University of Missouri, have unraveled a novel role of Nebivolol, a 3rd generation beta adrenergic receptor blocker. During her Ph.D. and Postdoc training at the School of Medicine, Chonbuk National University, South Korea, Dr. Gul elucidated a novel signaling pathway of ADP-ribosyl cyclase activation by Ang II in adult rat cardiomyocytes. She also demonstrated that inhibition of ADP-ribosyl cyclase by a small molecule inhibitor, 2,2'-dihydroxyazobenzene (DAB), attenuates Ang II-induced cardiac hypertrophy.
