COURSE TITLE: GERIATRIC PROSTHODONTICS
CREDIT HOURS: 1 (1 Lecture, Second semester)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
492 DEN is a new course in the curriculum which covers Geriatric Prosthodontics and will be given to the fifth year students during the second semester of the academic year 1435/1436. During the course, the students will be asked to attend the course lectures and pass the didactic exam.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of the age related changes in the elderly and to be able to differentiate it from the pathological changes.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge in the construction of proper treatment planning for geriatric patients.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge in prosthodontic care of geriatric patients.

- Epidemiology: Dental Prosthetic Status of Elderly
- Age Related Changes of the masticator apparatus
- Nutrition in Elderly
- Psychiatric Changes in Elderly
- The Effects of Aging on Drug Therapy
- Disease Related Changes in Elderly
- Prosthodontic Treatment Planning in Elderly
- Prosthodontic Care of Elderly, treatment with fixed prostheses
- Prosthodontic Care of Elderly, treatment with removable prostheses

COURSE PROTOCOL:
- ATTENDANCE
- Attendance to the lecture is mandatory and of primary importance.
- Being ten (10) minutes late to the lecture will be considered as absent.
- Twenty-five percent (25%) of absence from the lecture will deprive the students from taking the final exam (university rules and regulations).
- In order for an absence to be excused, it must be approved by the vice dean for academic affairs on the day of the absence.
- EXAMINATION
- There will be a mid-term didactic exam.
- Quizzes will be given as indicated in the schedule or at the course director’s discretion. No-make ups will be allowed for quizzes that are missed.
- There will be a final didactic exam.
- CHEATING
- Cheating will not be tolerated. Students found cheating during the quizzes and the mid-term exam will be given an automatic failure.
