5) RESEARCH INTERESTS:

  • Specialization: Polymer Chemistry and Nanomaterials.
  • Research Area: Design, preparation, and characterization of monomers and polymers, grafting, as well as the fabrication of polymer nanofibers and carbon nanofibers using electrospinning technology and their various applications in the fields of medicine, water treatment, and energy.

Preparation Methods

  1. Preparation and Characterization of monomers and polymers for biomedical applications and water treatment.
  2. Grafting of some monomers onto biopolymers and their derivatives, such as starch and carboxymethyl starch as well as surface modification of biopolymers, such as chitosan for biomedical applications.
  3. Electrospinning Technology.

Polymer nanofibers with diameters ranging from microns to nanometers are produced using electrospinning technology.

These fibers have numerous advantages that make them widely used in the medical, water treatment, and energy fields.

  • Preparation of biohybrid nanofibers using extracts from plant and bacterial for biomedical and water treatment applications.
  • Preparation of carbon nanofibers and their surface modification for water treatment.

Fields of Applications

  1. Biomedical Applications
  • Drug delivery and Controlled Release Systems

Various drug delivery systems can be prepared from some polymers or modified biopolymers.

Controlled drug release technology can be used and increases drug stability and half-life, reduces side effects, and improves patient response to these medications.

Drug delivery systems, tissue engineering, and regeneration can also be developed using green electrospinning technology without the use of organic solvents. This is a safe and

            environmentally friendly method.

  • Antimicrobial Polymers

Modified and grafted biopolymers, as well as modified nanofibers, are being used to develop new antimicrobial materials that can be used in various biomedical fields and in

biological treatment of water from microbes.

  1. Environmental Applications (Water Treatment):

Modified polymers, as well as polymer nanofibers and surface modified carbon fibers, are being used in water treatment to remove heavy metals, dyes, and antibiotics. They are

also used in biological water treatment using antimicrobials.

  1. Energy:

In the energy field, electrospinning technology can be used to produce nanometer-scale fibers from polymers and metal oxides.

Moreover, nanofibers can be converted into carbon fibers for energy applications as anodes in fuel cells.
