Course Objectives:
The course is designed to develop the communication skills and specialist English language knowledge of engineering students, enabling them to communicate more confidently and effectively with peers/colleagues. The topics covered are common to the engineering discipline such as procedures and precautions; monitoring and control; and engineering design.  Furthermore, authentic activities - from describing technical problems and suggesting solutions to working with drawings - make the course relevant and motivating.  A regular focus on technical and semi-technical vocabulary enables students to become familiar with and practice using the specialist language.  The course is designed to lay emphasis on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and helping students to develop their communicative ability within the engineering field and by the end of the course, students will be able to communicate professionally in an engineering environment.
