I started my academic career in 1984 as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at King Saud University after obtaining my PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. With academic advancement, I was appointed a professor in the same department in 1998. In 1999, I was appointed Head of the Department of Chemistry for four years. Then, I was appointed Dean of the College of Science at the same university in 2011 for a similar period of time. I participated in teaching organic chemistry courses to undergraduate and graduate students in addition to conducting and supervising scientific research tasks in the field of specialization. My research interests mainly focused on the syntheses and characterization of some heterocyclic compounds with multiple functional groups with potential biological activity and evaluating their biological effect. During my academic career, I have been able to achieve the following accomplishments: publishing more than 350 original research papers in leading scientific journals (h-index 30), supervising a several funded projects, supervising a number of graduate student projects, and participating in the membership of scientific councils for some of local universities.
