PHT 614- Advanced Pharmacokinetics

This course aims to establish the terminology, fundamental concepts, and principles of drug pharmacokinetics. It is designed to also provide the student with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary for problem solving techniques related to the relationship between drug concentration and time as well as drug concentration and effect. The course gives details of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. It discusses pharmacokinetics aspects of compartmental and non-compartmental analysis and nonlinear pharmacokinetics, and the calculation of different pharmacokinetic parameters. It also covers the multiple dosing and frequency of administration as well as renal and hepatic clearance of the drugs with emphasis on the clinically applicable pharmacokinetic formulae and the assumptions that are involved with their use.
