Fundamentals of Natural Products 2 (411 PHRM)
1. Course Description
This course is designed to provide pharmacy students with required knowledge and cognitive skills regarding the use of natural products and phytopharmaceuticals and give them the related professional skills in the field of screening and quality control. In this course, the student will learn: The course provides students with a required comprehensive learning of biological, physical, chemical and pharmacological characters of natural drugs and phytopharmaceuticals containing carbohydrates and their derivatives, glycosides, tannins, phenolic compounds in addition to unorganized drugs. Moreover, the course will give emphasize on natural products from animal, microorganisms and marine sources. Moreover, the course gives the required knowledge about preparation of medicinal plants to the market; including their collection, preparation, storage conditions and their preparation for use either in the crude form or as extracts.
2. Course Main Objective
“Natural Products and Phytopharmaceuticals2” course is designed to provide Pharmacy students with the required knowledge and skills about drugs derived from natural sources including plants, animals and marine sources. Discuss information regarding handling of crude drugs from farm to industrialization. Moreover, a comprehensive learning of biological, physical, chemical and pharmacological characters of several classes of natural products including carbohydrates, polyphenolics and glycosides. In addition to assisting students to be capable of identification, comprehension, detection, comparison and prediction of different classes and types of natural products and evaluate their quality.
