Dr. Mirza is a Professor of Info. Systems at the College of Computer & Info. Sciences, King Saud Univ. During 2021, he was selected as one of 90 from over 11,000 applicants to the MISK 2030 Leaders Program.
During the 2nd half of 2017, he assumed to role of Consultant to the Deputy Minister of Planning and Development and the General Director of the Techno Valleys Unit in the MOE. In January 2018 he assumed the role of Consultant and General Director of the Center for Research on Education Policy at the Deputyship for Planning and Development. In this capacity, Dr. Mirza led the transformation of the research and studies department into a center for evidence-based education policy research, recruiting (7) researchers with PhDs from global universities, and supervising several major MOE projects with World-leading organizations such as the OECD, the World Bank, Deloitte, BCG, Evidence Institute, and Harvard's Evidence for Policy Design.
Prof. Mirza represented the MOE in the E-Commerce Council, and also in the Permanent Committee for the Preparation of Reports on Human Rights, taking part in several of the Kingdom's delegations to the UN from 2018-2020.
During 2016, Dr. Mirza held the position of Vice Dean of Academic affairs at the CCIS, KSU. Prior to that in 2015, he worked as a consultant to the Minister of Higher Education and Minister of Education, and as the General Supervisor of the General Directorate of Teachers Affairs, which included leading an automation project for transfer requests by teachers with special circumstances.
From 2013 to 2015, he worked at the Saudi Electronic University as the Director of the Department of Quality & Accreditation and as a consultant to the Deputy of Planning, Development, and Quality.
Between 2009 and 2013 he served as the Chairman of the IS department, CCIS, KSU, leading the department to its first ABET accreditation, and soon afterwards becoming an ABET Program Evaluator (PEV). During the same period he also served as the Vice Director of the Center of Excellence in Information Assurance at KSU. From 2005 to 2009, Prof. Mirza served as the CIO at the King Abdullah Foundation for Developmental Housing.
Dr. Mirza is a Fulbright Alumni having spent one year at DePaul University (2002/2003). He completed his Ph.D. in CS from IIT, Chicago, IL., his MS in ORMS & BS in CS from GMU, Fairfax, VA. He also completed his High School Diploma at Wakefield H.S., Arlington, VA.
Research Interests: Software Engineering, E-Business, Project Management, and, Information Security.
