Course Description:
This intermediate course presents different types of writing, as well as organization skills. The course is also concerned with editing and revising techniques and developing vocabulary. In addition, students will learn the grammar and cohesive skills which are necessary to produce an academic paragraph or essay.
Course Objectives:
This course aims at:
· writing a well-connected opinion, descriptive, argument, narrative, comparative paragraph and multi-paragraph essay
· developing planning and prewriting strategies such as free writing, spider map, and clustergram
· developing editing and revising techniques
Students' Work:
Students will be given writing assignments and vocabulary and spelling quizzes throughout the semester. They will also be expected to do some peer-editing as well as other editing exercises.
Assignments must be turned in before 6 p.m. on the day they are due. 10% will be deducted for everyday ( or part of a day) the assignment is late.
All assignments and quizzes MUST be on A4 sheets of paper. If you choose not to hand in a hard copy for your assignments, it should be sent to my e-mail as an MS Word attachment.
Midterms:
There will be 2 midterms which will include editing exercises and essay writing. The 1st in-term exam will be held on October 16th during class hours, and the 2nd will be on December 11th during class hours.
Required Materials:
· Interactions 2 / Writing, Middle East Gold Edition.
· English –English dictionary.
· A4 Sheets of paper
· Student Writing Portfolios
Grading:
1. Midterms:
· 1st in-term 20%
· 2nd in-term 20%
→ Units included in the exam will be assigned in class.
2. Homeworks 10%
3. Quizes 10%
4. Final exam 40%
