Assessing the Effects of Dual Tasking on Spatiotemporal Parameters of Gait in Older Adults: Exploring Age and Task Demands

Dual tasking Elderly walking

This study was aimed to assess the spatiotemporal parameters of gait when different age groups of older adults (young-old adults and old adults) perform different types of dual tasks. A total of 31 participants (71.97 years old) were recruited in this study. The results of this study showed that there was a significant difference between age groups on the stride length of the left leg when they walk on the level surface. Furthermore, there was a significant difference on the spatiotemporal parameters of gait for the age groups when they walked and walked while engaging in a secondary task. Additional, there was a significant difference on the spatiotemporal parameters of gait for the age groups when they walked while engaging in different secondary task (fine motor skill, gross motor skill, and cognitive skill).
