This course introduces graduate students to the foundations of health behavior and health education, by exploring its scope and providing a general overview of relevant theories, empirical findings, and practices. In doing so, the course explores models of individual health behavior (e.g. Health Belief Model), as well as the interpersonal health behavior (e.g. Social Cognitive Theory) and the community and group models of health behavior change (e.g. Improving Health Through Community and Organization and Community Building). Furthermore, the course discusses the applications of these findings in public health research and practice. Emphasis is on application of behavioral and behavior-change theories and constructs in designing effective health education and promotion programs.
