Waste Tyre Recycling

The chapter provides an overview of waste tyres management, treatment, and recycling technologies. The basic components of tyres are discussed and the beneficial aspect of their recycling is described. Effective waste tyre recycling technologies are illustrated and discussed. In particular, the thermochemical conversion technologies which make waste tyres a convenient source of alternative fuel. Among the frequently used technologies, we have incineration, pyrolysis and gasification. Waste tyres recycling advantages are numerous; these include the reduction of the number of waste tyres, preventing pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials and saving energy. Furthermore, recycling of waste tyres will contribute directly and indirectly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; thus, mitigating the effects of global warming and climate change.
