My philosophy of teaching is enhanced by the material I teach, and by the lessons I have learned from personal teaching successes and failures. I believe that W.B. Yeats captured the exhilaration of teaching when he wrote: “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” Thus, my goal as a ‘teacher of teachers’ is to ignite in my students a passion to create an institutional teaching and learning environment that fosters a conflagration of educational experimentation and innovation at this academic health sciences center. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.
areas of expertise
I am particularly interested in experimental as well as clinical aspects of various Neurological diseases of human interest like Epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, Dyskinetic syndrome Spinal cord injury, etc. Besides, I have an interest in Diabetes, Gastric Ulcers, Duodenal and Rectal Ulcers, Arthritis, etc.. I have expertise in inducing these disorders in experimental animals under controlled conditions. My specific area of interest lies in identifying the specific regions in the brain and tracking the cellular degeneration and regeneration in brain tissue that is responsible for various neurological disorders. Intervention with natural products and synthetic materials in the recovery of induced diseases is the prime target. Particular interest lies in correlating my research findings with the perspective of Nursing care and infusing more interest in nursing research activities. Various parameters like neurotransmitters, oxidative stress, free radicals, behavioral responses, cognitive activity, memory retention, histopathological changes, immunohistochemical responses, and genetical variations are considered tools to discover new drugs and chemicals for the induced diseases in experimental hosts. The epidemiology and frequency of these diseases are also taken into account in human beings through hospital archives of patient data. The ultimate search of new drugs and compounds resulting in effective recovery response is the main target and my research is also aimed at clinical trials for human health care with a Nursing Care perspective.
