System Analysis and Design
Course Description
The course introduces the main concepts, methodologies, and techniques that are essential for a student to develop a small to medium size information system. The course takes into account the theoretical and practical aspects of the system analysis and design process. Emphasis is placed on the stages and techniques of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Course Objectives
• Describe the different types of Information Systems
• Describe the information systems development life cycle (SDLC)
• Discuss the analytical, technical, management, and interpersonal skill of a system analyst
• Discuss the process of managing an information systems project
• Discuss the Gantt and PERT charts
• Describe the role of CASE tools and how they are used to support activities of SDLC
• Describe the project identification and selection process
• Describe the steps involved in the project initiation and planning process
• Describe the various methods for assessing project feasibility
• Discuss the system requirements determination methods
• Understanding the logical modeling of processes by studying Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs)
• Understand the use of Structured English, Decision Trees and Decision Tables for representing the steps in logical processes in Data Flow Diagrams
• Understand the role of conceptual data modeling in overall analysis and design on information system
• Drawing Entity-Relationship (E-R) diagram to represent common business solutions
• Explain the role of designing databases in the analysis and design of an information system
• Explain the process of designing forms and reports and the deliverables for their creation
