Essam Abd El-Motaal is, from 2009 till now, a professor of Structural Geology and Plate tectonics in the Department of Geology and Geophysics, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Structural Geology from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt in 1990 and 1993 respectively. He joined Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 1984 as a Demonstrator. In 1988-1989 Abd El-Motaal earned a postgraduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and geological survey from ITC, Enschede, the Netherlands. He joined Sabha University, Libya as an Associate Professor teaching Structural Geology and Geotectonics in 2004-2005. His teaching and research areas of interests include Structural Geology, Plate tectonics, Geotectonics, Geodynamics and Neotectonics.
He supervised several M.Sc. and Ph.D. dissertations and published more than 25 articles in the field of Structural Geology, Neotectonics and Geomorphology.
Prof. Dr. E. Abd El-Motaal had been awarded the Fulbright Scholarship in Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, Missouri, USA in 2002.
