Ahmed M. El-Naggar received the B.S., and M.S. and Ph. D. degrees from Ain-Shams University, Egypt, in 1980, 1986 and 1992, respectively. He was a predoctoral researcher working on the growth and characterization of hydrogenated amorphous silicon Solar Cells at Technical Clausthal University, Germany (1988-1991). He worked as an assistant professor at Physics department, college of science, Ain-Shams University-Cairo-Egypt (1992-1999). He was a postdoctoral researcher working on the growth and characterization of oxides, III-V semiconductor materials, and opto-electronic devices at North Carolina State University and University of Rochester, USA (1999-2002). He worked as an Associate professor at Physics department, college of science, Ain-Shams University-Cairo-Egypt (2002-2003). He worked as an associate professor at Physics & Astronomy department, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia (2003-2013). He is a professor at Physics and Astronomy dept., King Saud University, Saudi Arabia (2013-Now). He is a member of the renewable energy and environment research group (2003-now). He is a member of the research chair of exploitation of renewable energy applications in Saudi Arabia (2014-now).

The Ph.D. thesis was titled "Studies on Amorphous silicon solar cells"

Research work experience:

  1. My research area is: III-V Semiconductor Materials and devices (e.g. Quantum dot & quantum well lasers, HBT & BJT transistors), Silicon on Insulator Technology (SOI), Ternary compound semiconductors CuInSe2, and Amorphous Silicon.               
  2. Growing of thin films and devices using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD), Evaporation, Electron beam, and Sputtering.
  3. Fabrication of semiconductor devices
  4. Thin film characterization using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM), Photoluminescence (PL), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Hall Effect and conductivity Measurements, RHEED, EDX, and AEG.
  5. Electrical and optical Characterization of the Fabricated films and devices.
  6. Characterization of solar cells parameters (design and performance) under normal and concentrated solar radiation.
  7. Solar energy storage techniques.
  8. The optical properties of thin film and bulk   materials.
