He has over 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications in SCI journals with an H-index of 63 by Clarivate Analytics and 66 by Scopus, and his publications have been cited more than 14600 times according to Scopus and more than 13000 citations according to Web of Science. He has also been a member of the editorial board of Analytica Chimica since 10/2007 to 04/2022; a member of the editorial board of Journal of Hazardous Materials from January 2007 to April 2018, and return to the board of Journal of Hazardous Materials in April 2021. Both Elsevier. He was an editor of the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering (Elsevier) from October 2012 to April 2018, the Editor of Special Issues of the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering from April 2018 to August 2019; he was an editor of the Journal of Hazardous Materials from April 2018 to October 2020. Nowadays, he is an editor of Microporous and Mesoporous Materials. Professor Lima has been working on removing toxic compounds from aqueous effluents using various adsorbents. His research group is now broadly focused on the use of biomass-based materials for the removal of toxic species from industrial and hospital effluents and also on the development of new adsorbent materials such as organo-functionalized silica and silicates, celluloses, and carbon nanotubes, as well as the production of new carbon-based adsorbents derived from renewable sources.
