Discourse Analysis

The course is an introduction to the main features of discourse, as well as the most important concepts and approaches to discourse analysis that describe and explain the structure and function of spoken, written, and other types of discourses.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

In this course, learners will participate in a variety of activities that will enable them to:

  • show control of the general features and organization of discourse that are typical to various discourse types, 

  • have the capacity to apply basic concepts in the analysis of written and naturally occurring discourse,

  • realize the implications of social and cultural context for the interpretation of meanings in both written and naturally occurring discourse,

  • understand the relationships between discourse and power in a context of cultural change and development.
