Dietary Supplements and Nutraceuticals (PHRM 431)
At the completion of the course series, the student should be able to:
1- Recognize the importance, types, and requirements of vitamins and their role in human body health, deficiency diseases and their interaction with drugs and food.
2- Describe the value of essential minerals, their role in the body, daily requirements, and results of their deficiency.
3- Identify the importance, mechanism, types, and sources of probiotics.
4- Realize the importance, mechanisms, and functions of food supplements such as natural antioxidant, PUFAs, and specific amino acids.
5- Recognize pharmaceutically available natural products and understand their pharmacological actions, toxicities and interaction with drugs.
