AEE 4931 & AEE 4940: Senior Design Project

Graduation project (AEE 4931 and AEE 4940) is a two-semester capstone design experience in which Mechanical Engineering seniors tackle open-ended industrial engineering problems and formulate solutions. During the first semester (AEE 4931) students are required to build on the proposed project during the summer training with the help of the industrial supervisor or selected project assigned from the department, select an academic advisor, and submit a working finalized pre-proposal. The major deliverables at the end of the first semester are an oral presentation, a poster and a written progress report  containing a comprehensive proposal that includes details of the background research, tasks, timelines, budget, preliminary feasibility studies, prototype and bread-boarding. Ethics in engineering practice and research, and professionalism are emphasized. Team design projects are highly encouraged.

Continuation of the project started in Graduation Project I AEE 4931 course.  The major deliverable of the project is the submission of final written comprehensive report of the project that includes details of the background research, tasks, timelines, budget, preliminary feasibility studies, and project design steps. An oral presentation and poster/demonstration are also required and will be evaluated by an examination committee to be chosen from faculty members. The project grade reflects the student’s ability to understand the engineering problem, formulate solution alternatives, identify the design constraints, and suggest a design proposal. Ethics in engineering practice and research, and professionalism are emphasized.  Team design projects are highly encouraged.
