MIS 431: Business Process Management

Course Description:

Business Process Management (BPM) is a field that applies knowledge from information technology and management sciences to manage business processes comprehensively. BPM tools and techniques are provided to identify, define, analyze, automate, and constantly improve business processes. The generation and use of process models is central to many tasks in the BPM life cycle. These models describe not only the business activities, events, and control flow relationships between them, but also the data being processed, the organizational resources involved, and the IT systems that enable the performance of business processes. This course looks at the different phases of the BPM life-cycle from the viewpoints of process, people, and technology. This course's knowledge and skills will offer you with the basic tools to carry out and understand BPM projects. 

Course Objectives:

 On successfully completing this course, students will be expected to be able to:

  • Identify the different phases in the management of business processes.
  • Describe the objective, functions, tools and methods of business processing modelling and analysis.
  • Analyze existing business processes by working effectively in a team.
  • Evaluate the performance of business processes and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Design new business process models using BPMN-based modelling tools.
