CHE 458: Artificial Intelligence for Model Predictive Control
This course provides a systematic introduction to model-based control with an emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) approaches. Students will learn how to formulate and solve model predictive control problems for multivariable engineering systems under constraints. Topics include linear systems, state estimation, optimal control, system identification, nonlinear control, and reinforcement learning. Practical emphasis is placed on integrating AI-based tools (such as optimization algorithms and advanced learning methods) to design predictive controllers in various engineering domains (chemical, mechanical, aerospace, electrical, and beyond). By the end of the course, students will be able to build, implement, and evaluate model predictive control strategies augmented by AI techniques for complex dynamic systems.
