The course provides coverage of the major topics in biotechnology, molecular biology and special topics of current interest in Biochemistry.
- Objectives
This course is designed with the objectives to help the students:
A. Learn the basics of Genetic Engineering
- Understand Recombinant DNA technology
- Learn about DNA cloning and transformation
- Learn about knock down or knock out
- Understand the genome editing technology: CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing System and its application
- Understand Genome Alteration technologies such as zinc finger nucleases, TALENs and homologues recombination and the differences between them.
- Appreciate the importance of The Human Genome Project and its contribution to the field of genetic engineering
- Understand site directed mutagenesis and its applications
B. Learn the basics of detecting protein-protein interactions
- Understand protein tagging with fluorophores
- Understand colocalization of proteins
- Understand affinity protein purification
- Understand co-immunoprecipitation and its applications
