Implementation of ISO 17025 and ISO 9000 in Gut Microbiology Laboratory

This project is written quality control procedures for the accreditation of the Gut Microbiology Laboratory at the School of Food Biosciences, University of Reading. It gives the requirements that must be met to ensure the quality and the traceability of analyses being conducted in this particular laboratory. It provides quality control procedures for controlling the quality of the laboratory environment, media/chemicals and laboratory equipment. It also gives written instructions on how to perform the requirements given in the quality control procedures and how to document these quality control procedures for the purpose of internal and external auditing. These procedures have been written in accordance with the international standards ISO 17025:2000 and ISO 9000:2000. By implementing the quality control procedures given in chapters 1, 2 and 3, the laboratory will ensure the development of its quality, administrative and technical systems. This document reports non-compliances in the Gut Microbiology Laboratory and gives advice on how to eliminate non-compliances and the person who responsible for conducting non-compliances elimination in this particular situation.

Chapter 4 of this document provides a procedure to be followed when conducting a trial within the School of Food Biosciences at the University of Reading. This procedure has been written in accordance with Good Clinical Practice, published by the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) in 1996, and as required by the Directive 2001/20/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council. By complying with this procedure, the laboratory will ensure the protection of trial subjects, the accuracy of the assessment of Investigational Medicinal Products and the scientific conduct of the trial.
