Genotypic variation in Soybean genotypes towards salinity.
Legumes are important source of protein for teeming human population. These are very sensitive to salt levels and soil drought status, experiencing water deficit due to osmotic stress possibly coupled with biochemical perturbations induced by the influx of sodium ions. Identification of diverse genotypes is the prerequisite for improvement of any trait in the crop plants. Furthermore, monitoring the genetic variability within gene pool of elite breeding material could make crop improvement more efficient by the direct accumulation of favoured alleles. DNA markers are being increasingly utilized in cultivar development, quality control of seed production, measurement of genetic diversity for conservation and management, varietal identification and intellectual property protection.
