Professor Akhter is a US citizen and has 27 years of full-time experience in higher education to provide strategic and operational leadership and focused on academic excellence and student success.
He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom, an MBA in International Business from Lindenwood University-Missouri, and a BSc in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the University of St. Louis-Missouri.
He currently serves as a Full Professor of Management Information Systems at the College of Business Administration of King Saud University. He previously held senior administrative positions at King Saud University, Colgate University, Baruch College (CUNY), and the Zayed University.
Professor Akhter has collaborated with admissions, human resources, faculty development, academic deans, and institutional advancement to enhanced diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across the College and University. Professor Akhter has guided and advised the management in adopting measures, including guidance, counseling, mentoring, inclusive learning, teaching & assessment methods to facilitate access and support students from various backgrounds during their studies at the College. The commitment to DEI has been an integral element of his teaching, management, and scholarly activities.
Professor Akhter has served the College of Technological Innovation of Zayed University as a founding faculty for 13 years. As a Graduate Program Coordinator of MSc, he had coordinated the activities to inaugurate the program, including the curriculum, student recruitment, course scheduling, and build partnerships with industry, including teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. He had chaired the accreditation committee to secure accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. He has led the curriculum committee to offered interdisciplinary courses with the College of Educations and College of Communication.
