Dr. Amal Alenad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at King Saud University, where she specializes in molecular biology and epigenetics. Her academic work centers on understanding how environmental, nutritional, and developmental factors influence gene regulation and contribute to the onset of chronic diseases. She has conducted extensive research on DNA methylation, gene–environment interactions, and the epigenetic mechanisms underlying cancer and metabolic disorders. Her scholarly contributions include studies examining the epigenetic regulation of signaling pathways in breast cancer, the impact of genetic variants such as those in the vitamin D receptor on gestational diabetes risk, and the association of multiple gene polymorphisms with prediabetes and inflammatory biomarkers in regional populations

In addition to her research portfolio, Dr. Alenad has completed postdoctoral training in cancer epigenetics and proteomics, acquiring expertise in advanced laboratory techniques, including stem-cell culture, quantitative mass spectrometry, gene cloning, and a wide range of DNA and protein analysis methods. At King Saud University, she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in molecular biology, molecular genetics, and biotechnology, and actively contributes to academic mentoring and curriculum development. Her work reflects a commitment to advancing precision medicine through the integration of genetic, epigenetic, and environmental data to improve early disease prediction, prevention strategies, and overall public health outcomes

Dr.Amal Alend has a broad research focus in the field of epigenetics, which refers to changes in gene expression that occur without altering the underlying DNA sequence. Her primary areas of interest include the role of epigenetics in health and disease, particularly the “developmental origins of chronic illnesses”. This concept examines how environmental factors, nutrition, and other early-life exposures influence epigenetic modifications, potentially increasing the risk of chronic diseases later in life

Her work also involves studying gene–environment interactions, nutritional epigenetics, and identifying epigenetic markers that contribute to disease prediction and prevention. In addition, she is interested in exploring the potential of epigenetic-based therapeutic approaches and applying genetic and epigenetic information to advance medical research and improve health outcomes
