stat 215 (Probability I)

Objectives  :
Students enrolled in this course will be able to:
a) Know the basic concept Introducing basic concepts of Random variables - Probability distributions (Discrete and continuous)
b) Knowledge of Famous discrete and continuous probability distributions – Random vectors.
c) Knowledge of Expectation and variation  - Discrete bivariate probability distributions - Marginal and conditional probability distributions - Independence, correlation and covariance - Moments and moment generating function.
d) Knowledge of Distributions of Function of one and two random variables.
2.  Briefly describe any plans for developing and improving the course that are being implemented.  (eg increased use of IT or web based reference material,  changes in content as a result of new research in the field)
·         Utilizing a new textbook, in the trial phase (lecturer’s notes,) to be issued specifically for this course. This book entitled “Probability Distributions”. The topics of this book were collected from modern scientific material.
·         Assigning number of approved reference books for this course.
Encourage students to look for and bring information about the topics of the course via the search in the internet.
