CEN465 - Digital Image Processing

CEN465 - Digital Image Processing
B.Sc. in Computer Engineering
Credit hour: 3; three hours lecture and one hour tutorial per week
Prerequisite: CEN352 (Digital Signal Processing)

Course Description:
Covers quantitative models of imaging systems, spatial domain and frequency domain methods, digital filter design for image enhancement and restoration, edge detection, image denoising, image segmentation, image enhancement, image restoration, image compression, and image representation and description.

Course Learning Outcomes:
Understand the fundamentals of digital images and their formation.
Describe the concept of sampling, quantization, interpolation and the relationship between pixels.
Apply intensity transformations and histogram processing.
Apply filtering in the spatial and spectral domains.
Apply restoration, enhancement, compression and decompression.

Gonzalez, R. C. and Woods, R. E., Digital Image Processing, 3rd Ed., 2008, Prentice Hall.

Marks distribution:
Quizzes and assignments: 20%
Two midterm exams: 40%
Final exam: 40%

Midterm exam dates
First midterm exam: 20 February (Wednesday) during the tutorial time.
Second midterm exam: 25 March (Monday) during lecture time.

Course policy:
No late assignment is accepted.
There is no curve in grading.
Attendance policy of the college will be strictly followed.
No makeup midterm exams.
