ENGT 232 - Readings in the Language Culture 2

Readings in the Target Culture 2 is a follow-up of Readings in the Target Culture 1. It aims at building up the students’ knowledge on the following issues: 1) relationship of Language and Culture, and the importance of developing learners (translators) sociolinguistic competence; 2) how language and culture affect each other; 3) the cultural meaning of utterances; 4) language and identity; 5) understanding the American culture as a target within the theoretical frameworks of Hofstede, and Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck in addressing cultural values and habits; 6) Linguistic and Cultural Imperialism; 7) and Current Issues in Language & Culture relationship.
