Education

Master’s Degree in Science/Biochemistry

2007 - 2011    Biochemistry Department/College of Science/ King Saud University    Riyadh, Saudi Arabia ( GPA 4.11 of 5)

Bachelor Degree in Science/Biochemistry

2001 - 2005    Biochemistry Department/College of Science/ King Saud University    Riyadh, Saudi Arabia(GPA 4.84 of 5 )

 Experience    Laboratory  technician

King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia     2006

One year experience as contractual technician / Biochemistry Department / King Saud University / Riyadh / KSA (2006). In this job I was responsible for preparing the chemical solutions and reagents for three practical courses: enzymology, analysis of biological fluids and blood biochemistry. I was also responsible for teaching the practical section of 101 BCH course. In that year I have gained many laboratory skills like time management, organization and labeling of chemicals and reagents and making a pre-lab (testing the experiment before the student, to make sure that the reagents are accurate) and how to make laboratory reports .Moreover, I learned all the principle of the  lab safety.

DEMONSTRATOR

King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia     2008-TO DATE

Four years experience in teaching practical courses and research concepts. Department/College of Science/ King Saud University. Riyadh, SaudiArabia. (2008-2011). Here my key responsibilities was to teach and train the  undergraduate students in the practical courses. The courses that I have taught are biochemistry of blood, physical biochemistry, practical metabolism, molecular biology, food analysis, analysis biological fluid , General biochemistry, enzyme kinetics, laboratory techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology. In these courses I have taught the students the basic biochemistry techniques such as dialysis, chromatography, which include gel filtration, ion exchange chromatography and thin layer chromatography. Moreover I have taught them how to get familiar with using pH meter, centrifuge and spectrophotometer and a lot more concepts.

In the same department, I also attended specific workshops and have learned the principles and the  protocols of some protein separation techniques including Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate-Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis and High-performance liquid chromatography /Biochemistry Department / College of Science / King Saud University, Riyadh/KSA. (2011).

RESEARCHER

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia     2008-2011

Three years experience in a specialized molecular biology lab. Behavior  Genetics/Genetics department / Research center/ King Faisal specialist Hospital  , Riyadh/KSA.  (2008-2011). I n this lab I was working on my master project which entitled “genotype-phenotype correlation in Saudi beta thalasemia patients”. According to that I have experienced the  molecular biological skills that are required to fulfill this study. These skills are:

manual and using kit for DNA extraction of DNA from blood .I did extract the DNA from 110 patients blood samples using Gentra kit. Moreover, I have practiced manual DNA extraction methods from blood and plazmid. After the DNA extraction I measured its concentration using the Nanodrop.

Polymerase chain reaction PCR. In order to amplify the beta globin I have practiced primer design using primer3 software and I have gained the skill of performing  the standard  PCR , I also have practiced  Multiplex PCR.

Agarose Gel Electrophoresis . The amplified fragments are visualized via agarose gel electrophoresis.

Automated sequences (ABI). I have done some of the sequence of the amplified fragments myself . The rest were done by the sequence core facility lab members.

Restriction Fragments length polymorphism (RFLP). In order to generate the haplotype, I have done about other one thousand PCR reactions followed by Restriction Enzymes Digestion. The results are also visualized on agarose gel Electrophoresis.

I am good at use two DNA sequence analysis  softwares,  which are the DNA star and sequencer.

In addition to that, I can use the scientific project web sites such as Ensembl, GeneBank , NCBI and UCSC genome Browser perfectly.

Moreover, I have the skill of reading and understanding and writing  the scientific papers and using the writing tools to organize the references such as endnote software.

I have experienced writing one scientific paper and I have contributed in reviewing another scientific paper. The one that I wrote titled “Characterization of Beta-globin Gene Mutations in Beta-Thalassemia Patients in Saudi Arabia” which is under review.

The one that I have contributed in reviewing titled Variable β-Globin Haplotypes in Saudi β Thalassemia Population, which has been published in the open journal of hematology

Brenner laboratory/ UIOWA/Iowa City .USA.                      2012-2013

I I have spent one year in prof. Brenner’s lab/ University of Iowa-USA. I earn more skills in the preparation  LB media, bacterial transformation, purifying the plasmid using QIAGEN kit and Electrophoresis. Moreover, I have worked on H++ and propka softwares to predict the protein pka and TargetP, signalP for signal sequence predictions.
