Objective:      To give the student the basics of ground survey measurement techniques
Field and lab tasks:
§  Training on distance measurement using Tapes, Optical Instrument (ODM) and Electromagnetic Instrument (EDM) techniques.
§  Training on leveling operations.
§  Training on horizontal and vertical angles measurements using theodolites.
§  Measurement of planimetric areas using planimeter.
 
Field & Office Work Tasks:
1.     Planning
2.     Reconnaissance
3.     Sketching
4.     Station Marking
·        Either with a temporary mark such as a wooden peg
·        Or by a permanent mark normally in the form of a concrete pillar set into the ground or a bolt let into a rock surface
5.     Field observations and booking
6.     Reduction and adjustment of observations
7.     Computation of results
8.     Compilation of results
9.     Plotting
10.                        The survey report
 
Survey Report
A lab report must be submitted one week after the field work. The report should contain the following 5 sections:
       i.            Objectives (purpose of the field work)
     ii.            Field procedure (equipment used & the procedure)
  iii.            Field notes (include the original field notes)
  iv.            Calculations and results
     v.            Comments and conclusions
