PL473 - Environmental Impact of Projects
This course intends to develop students’ knowledge and skills that enable to identify the pros and cons and the impact of the new development on the project area and the surrounding urban context, as a result of the project design and implementation process. It also focuses on determining the necessary urban planning and design controls, regulations, dimensions and considerations. The process of investigating the project’s impacts of on surrounding areas, includes studies related to the environmental, economic, social and health impacts, the natural resources preservation, the project outcomes, and the advancement of sustainable development projects. In addition, the course utilizes scientific methods and means in measuring the impact levels and types, whether they are direct and occur when the project is being developed, or indirect (cumulative) that occur as an outcome of the project. This can be identified during the students’ site visits and field works (exercise) and the methods used in the field (matrices, tables, lists and surveys...) and thus identifying project’s constraints and opportunities.
Students will also reflect upon the context of national vision 2030 and its programs, as strategic directions of the project context.
