618 PHT-Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems
The course provides a general overview of polymers and their use in the design of drug delivery systems (DDS). The course will introduce the students to the different types of polymers as well as methods and techniques of polymerization. It will also discuss the different properties of polymers and the methods for their characterization. Moreover, the different methods of drug loading (physical and chemical) into polymer-based delivery systems as well as the mechanisms and kinetics of the drug release from those systems will be explored and discussed in detail. Furthermore, students will be encouraged to discuss relevant research topics. Finally, the course will provide examples on the role of polymers in the design and development of delivery systems used for both oral and non-oral drug administration.
