COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The first part of this course is designed to provide 5th Year dental student with awareness to the principles and activities of Dental Public Health (DPH), in addition to knowledge on the application of sciences of epidemiology. The second part of the course will explore the concepts of the dental public health and how to plan, conduct and evaluate an educational program, understand occupational hazards, and infection controlin addition to the application of ethics in dentistry.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Recognize the basics of Dental Public Health and Community Dentistry.
2. Identify the basics of epidemiology, ethics and research methodology in relation to dentistry.
3. Recognize the Oral health status in Saudi Arabia
4. Define the basics of occupational hazards in dentistry.
5. Develop awareness to the common problems and activities in dental public health.
6. Evaluate the dental literature and distinguish quality of journals and reports.
7. Develop a community dental public health educational program targeting a specific segment of the population.
8. Apply the sciences of epidemiology and biostatistics in dentistry.
