BCH 577: Blood Biochemistry

This course is an elective course for the master's students. It provides an in-depth exploration of hematological biochemistry, focusing on the structure, function, and metabolism of blood components including erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets. The course covers advanced topics such as hemoglobin and porphyrin metabolism, iron homeostasis and its disorders, bilirubin metabolism, and inherited blood diseases like thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and porphyrias. It also examines primary and secondary hemostasis, the coagulation cascade, and bleeding disorders.
