Quaiser Saquib

Dr. Saquib received PhD from Aligarh Muslim University, India. In the doctoral thesis he worked on the assessment of pesticides induced toxicity in human lymphocytes, as well as bacterial mutagenicity of pesticides. He joined King Saud University (KSU) in 2008, and currently working as an Associate Professor and Coordinator of DNA Research Chair in Zoology Department, College of Science. Dr. Saquib got success in securing one grant as Principal Investigator (PI) and three grants as Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) funded by National Plan for Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia.
Since the inception of his research career, much of his work has been doing the cell biology and molecular toxicology of xenobiotics (nanoparticles, pesticides, flame retardants, bisphenols etc.) using in vitro (human lymphocytes/cell lines) and in vivo (rats/mouse) test models. He focused to measure cell cycle, apoptosis, Ca2+ influx, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, DNA damage, cytogenetic anomalies, histological architecture, ultrastructural effects on cell organelles, transcriptional, and translational activation of apoptotic proteins. Using the RNA-Seq approach he has deciphered transcriptome alterations in human cells as a consequence of xenobiotic exposure.
Dr. Saquib is the recipient of SESR Bioscientist Award (2018), Scientist of the Year Award (2016), and Young Scientist Award (2008) for the outstanding contribution in molecular toxicology research. There are 76 ISI publications, 4 edited books (Springer), and 6 book chapters were added to his credentials.
Dr. Saquib has presented and discussed his research findings at the international scientific platforms including India, USA, Germany, Canada, Netherlands, and Austria. He has international collaborations with labs in Austria, China, and India. Apart from his deep involvement in research, he is engaged in teaching and training of bachelors, masters, and PhD students in KSU.

PRESENT STATUS
Working as an Associate Professor and Coordinator of DNA Research Chair in Department of Zoology, College of Sciences, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 
 
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research interests include cell biology, molecular toxicology, nanotoxicology, environmental toxicology, carcinogenesis, anti-cancer biology, biophysical ligand-macromolecules interaction, phytotoxicity. The horizon of research can be categorized in four-folds explaining;
·       Quantitation of xenobiotics (nanoparticles, flame retardants, pesticides etc.) induced transcriptomic alterations, cytotoxicity, DNA damage, apoptosis, Ca++ influx, esterase activity, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, translational changes, histological/ultrastructural effects in in vitro (human lymphocytes and cell lines) and in vivo (mouse/rat) test models.
·       Anti-cancer efficacies of chemically synthesized drugs, marine and phyto-derived compounds. 
·       Biophysical interaction analysis of xenobiotics, as exogenous ligands with biological macromolecules (DNA/proteins). 
·       Assessment of xenobiotics induced phytotoxicity using plants as model system.
