Dr. Saleh Al-Tayyar is a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Technology, College of Applied Medical Sciences, at King Saud University. During the period (Feb 2004 – Sep 2008) he served as the Director General for Medical Devices Sector at the Saudi Food & Drug Authority, he became the vice Executive President for Medical Devices Sector at the Saudi Food & Drug Authority (Sep 2008 – Sep 2014). He established a state of the art medical devices regulatory system in Saudi Arabia that achieved the respect and recognition of the international regulatory arena. He was also a member of the executive team that established the Saudi Food and Drug Authority in Saudi Arabia.
He chaired many organizations and committees, among which are the Asian Harmonization Working Party (AHWP), an organization of more than 23 member economies working toward harmonization of medical devices in Asia, Africa, Middle East, and Latin America for three years, the Asian Regulatory Professional Association (ARPA) for three years, the Medical Devices Committee at Saudi Arabia Standards Organization, Al-Riyadh Biomedical Engineering Club, and the Medical & Clinical Engineering Chapter at the Saudi Council of Engineers.
He served as a board member in government and private organizations both locally and internationally. Among the boards that he served in nationally are: the Board of Saudi Standard, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), the Scientific Board for Applied Medical Sciences (SBAMS), Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, the National Authority for the Implementation of Chemical and Biological Weapons Agreements, the Scientific Association for Quality Performance and Risk Management in Health Care Sector, the Board of Trustee of AL-Farabi College, the Advisory Board of the College of Engineering at King Faisal University, AL-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, , the Advisory Board College of Biomedical Sciences at Satam University, AL-Kharj, Saudi Arabia. On the international level he served as member of the board in many organizations among which is the Board of International Medical Devices Regulators Forum (IMDRF) (Australia, Brazil, Canada, European Union, Japan, and Russia, AHWP, AND WHO).
Altayyar is a foot Biomechanics Consultant at the university Diabetes Center at King Saud University Diabetes Center, and a Biomedical Engineering Consultant at King Fahad Medical City, Ministry of Health, Riyadh - Saudi Arabia. He refereed and co-authored books on innovation in healthcare, Diabetic foot , and clinical engineering management. He organized and chaired many conferences.
Altayyar has a Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering from Mississippi State University, U.S.A. He is an energetic, motivated, and senior executive with academic, managerial, strategic, and extensive experience and proven success in development and leadership skills. A motivated, dynamic, and result oriented professional. Has over thirty years of experience in health care institutions, he is a very active participants in conferences and symposiums, and has many publications
