Mathematical Economics: Econ 603

Mathematical Economics: Econ 603 PhD in Economics

 

This course intended for PhD students in economics. The aim of this course is to provide the fundamental mathematical tools necessary to take PhD level economics courses. Mathematical Economics (Econ 603) will be an intensive course in Mathematics methods related to Matrix Algebra, Derivatives and Differential Calculus, Optimization, Continuous Times and Differential Equation and Optimal Control Theory among others topics. Also, Part of the course will mainly be devoted to explaining how to use mathematical methods to solve microeconomic and macroeconomic problems as well as conducting some applications for selected problems (or other problems we introduce in class).

Course Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be expected to demonstrate their abilities to:

  • Recognize the mathematical economics techniques and its application.
  • Understand mathematical techniques to analysis and understanding economic problems
  • Conduct and evaluate theatrical and empirical economic study
  • Demonstrate ability to use mathematical software and to provide computer solution of economic problem
