PHC 428, Medicinal Chemistry IV
Course Description:
The course covers the medicinal chemistry of different chemotherapeutic agents such as antibacterial and antimicrobial agents, antivirals, antifungals, antiprotozoals. A special section will be assigned for cancer and anticancer chemotherapy. Agents to be studied will include thyroid and antithyroid drugs, and oral hypoglycemic agents. Emphasis is given to the mechanism of action, SAR and metabolism of these agents. The practical part will include methods of synthesis, analysis, purification and structure elucidation using pharmacopoeial methods and other spectroscopic techniques.
