ENG 381 - World Literature

The term "world literature" refers to literary works from across the globe. This course introduces students to outstanding works of fiction, plays, and poems from both Western and non-Western traditions. Through lectures, we will examine questions of culture, class, and gender. All texts will be read in English translation.

The course aims to develop students' critical thinking, close reading, and writing skills. It provides a unique opportunity to analyze how cultural contexts influence literary works and how stories, motifs, and themes transcend national borders. Students will explore significant literary texts and artistic interpretations, questioning societal and cultural norms to understand our complex, diverse world.
