MS Course IS 541: Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery
This course presents current research in data mining and knowledge discovery dealing with data integration, mining, and interpretation of patterns in large collections of data. Topics include data mining techniques for classification, regression, clustering, deviation detection, and association analysis; and evaluation of patterns mined from data. Students will be expected to read assigned textbook chapters and research papers, and work on implementation/research projects that cover the different stages of the KDD process. The aim of the course is to introduce the concepts and methods in Data Mining field. The course is intended to provide the students with strong background towards the application of Data Mining techniques in real world problems and performing research and development for recent Data Mining techniques. The course introduces the algorithms and methods Association Rules, Classification, Clustering, Sequential Pattern, Time Series Analysis and some other new trends in Data Mining field.
