Quality Control of Natural Products (PHRM 453)
The course covers the methods and techniques employed for screening medicinal plants for their bioactive constituents. It also discusses recent developments regarding methods for extraction, and spectroscopic identification of plant bioactive constituents. In addition, the course includes further application of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques in the analysis and determination of the bioactive and marker compounds
The students will learn about the factors affecting the quality of herbal drugs and methods for evaluation of herbal products and drugs derived from them as stated in the Pharmacopeias. In addition, the methods of detection of foreign matters and impurities will be covered. The course also covers the legal aspects of herbal drugs and formulations in KSA
