BCH 493: Research Project

 

This is an introductory research-oriented course. The students conduct a hypothesis-based small research project with hands-on experiments under the supervision of an advisor. The students perform literature surveys, conduct experiments, analyze the data and finally present the results in the form of a written report, poster, and oral presentation.     

The main objective of the course is to train students for designing and executing a research proposal applying critical thinking and good laboratory practices. The specific objectives are summarized below:

1. To learn how to design a hypothesis-driven research study
2. To understand the importance of literature survey and collecting background information
3. To gain familiarity with good laboratory practice while conducting lab work
4. To gain the knowledge of experimental accuracy and precision
5. To learn how to analyze and interpret the obtained data
6. To become proficient in the presentation of results using written reports, poster and oral presentation
