This course consists of directed readings in selected topics in MIS. These topics include the new current topics in the field or those that could not be included in the courses of management information systems.Cloud computing, big data and data mining are selected topics for this course.
Cloud computing has become a major commercial area for Internet product development and activity. Cloud computing services are becoming ubiquitous and are being adopted by a growing number of fields.
This course is designed to introduce the concepts of Cloud Computing as a new computing paradigm. The students will have an opportunity to explore the Cloud Computing various terminology, concepts, principles and applications. This course provides a hands-on comprehensive study of Cloud concepts and capabilities across the various Cloud service models including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). To provide students a sound foundation of the Cloud computing so that they are able to start using and adopting Cloud Computing services and tools in their real life scenarios.
Other topic covered in this course is Big data .The students will have an opportunity to explore terminology and the core concepts behind big data problems, applications, and systems and about how Big Data might be useful in their business or career. This course discusses how all stages of the decision-making process can be supported by conventional DSSs and will concentrate on using some Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, including knowledge-based systems, expert systems, neural networks, genetic algorithms, and data mining, for improving the overall quality of decisions. The students will learn how to apply different decision support technologies for solving various practical managerial decision problems and how to develop simple managerial decision-support systems by using some tools (e.g. MS Excel).
