ENG 414 Composing Research

The course is intended to give students the skills required by experimental or theoretical scientific research in linguistics or literature, from planning to analysis and synthesis of a college-level paper. The course focuses on the formulation of research questions, construction of a literature review, and presentation of findings. It provides practice in academic writing, methods of giving and incorporating feedback, and using library resources. Students conduct research in one of two annually assigned themes that can be studied from either a linguistics or literature perspective. Instructor area of expertise determines the linguistic or literary focus of student research projects.
